Josh Leitch Wins Champion of Champions
Maunagkiekie's Josh Leitch secured his second Champion of Champions title in four years when he held off all challengers at the Pukekohe Golf Club. And there were challengers. Firstly Ross Valentine (Remuera) posted the best round of the day in the afternoon shooting a one under par 70 to set a target of 146 to beat. Leitch's playing partner Tony Treen (Titirangi) kept his younger opponent honest by pressuring throughout the final round only to come up two shots short and post 147.
Leitch held his nerve in cold and wet conditions. He recorded the best morning round of 71 (par) and then an afternoon 74 saw him claim victory by one shot.
Pakuranga's Daniel Ruttley won the Intermediate section by four stableford points over Garry Morgan (Waiheke Island) with Whitford Park's Joseph Sim third.
Pakuranga were to the fore in the Junior section with Bruce Dunn winning by four stableford points over Clarks Beach representative Archie Tupaea with Waiheke Island's Alton Shinnick finishing third.
In the Ron Lay Rosebowl Teams event, Pakuranga tied with Maungakiekie but won the Rosebowl on a countback.
